EPIP WEBINAR: Financial Due Diligence-Using the 990 to Support Good Grantmaking
EPIP is beginning a series of monthly webinars for our community, all of which are free for EPIP members. The webinar series speak to the values that EPIP upholds: they are a space for our members to share their own knowledge, and a place for EPIP to curate material that aligns with our beliefs in leadership development and social impact. This first member-driven webinar, Financial Due Diligence: Using the 990 to Support Good Grantmaking, will review key financial statements to understand nonprofit fiscal health, including the IRS Form 990, annual reports, balance sheets, and online tools for evaluation. To register, click here. If you are an EPIP member and need access to the free ticket, please email Kate Seely at [email protected] for that. You can also find it on my Member Connect profile. Questions the discussion will explore: What are the primary differences between nonprofit and for-profit finance? What are the benefits and drawbacks of using 990 data? How can one begin to understand an organization’s adaptive capacity using the balance sheet on a Form 990? When is FinancialSCAN an appropriate tool for analyzing 990 data and comparing organizations?

EPIP is a place for leadership in action. Our members learn by doing, therefore making a difference in their jobs and in their communities. Our chapters are guided by the brilliance and commitment of our chapter leaders, individuals volunteering their time to advance the EPIP mission while improving their leadership skills. Our network is a safe space for emerging practitioners in philanthropy to exercise leadership, to take risks, and to get feedback. It is a place for you, our members, to be seen and heard. As a platform, we hope to spark innovative problem solving to address the challenges our world faces. Our voices are diverse within the field, and we are future thinking. As a community, we point to the horizon where problems will be solved. These awards lift up the work and the voices of our network. Please take a moment to nominate your colleagues. EPIP Perspectives – To a 2013 Full of Courage
Check out this perspective from EPIP member and leader, Christi Tran: The smell of alcohol burns my nostrils, and the cold metal of the stethoscope unnerves me as it traverses my back. Still, I sit in silent confidence, my legs dangling off the edge of the examination table, my hands sticking to the paper I’m sitting on. “So, Christine,” the doctor says, “looks like it’s time for your annual shot.
