The EPIP Blog

Rahsaan, you’re working with Gladys Knight?!

Mothers love to brag about their children. For them, it’s a source of pride to say, “my daughter is a doctor” or “my son is a lawyer.” In that moment of truth, it is universally understood that the mother was successful in raising her child well. My mom is proud of me, but she has always had difficulty describing what I do.  “Rahsaan spends other people’s money for good causes” is usually the best she can muster. Getting the job as EPIP’s new Executive Director didn’t improve matters. “Now you’re telling me you’re a Pip?! I didn’t know Gladys Knight was auditioning new back up singers.” Let me explain to my mother (and anyone else who is interested) what EPIP is. Read more

Generating Change Funder Briefing and EPIP NYC Fall Kick-Off – NYC, Thursday, September 27

With an ever-increasing focus on impact and results, foundations are looking to nonprofits to deliver meaningful returns on their philanthropic investments. Yet foundations consistently overlook the MOST important investment they can make to ensure nonprofit effectiveness: supporting talent and leadership development. Nonprofits are only as effective as the people who lead them and deliver their services, but many nonprofits are stymied by a lack of systems and structures for improving the skills and abilities of their people. The dearth of resources for talent and leadership development plagues the sector from recruitment through retirement, at individual nonprofits and throughout the entire field. After the program, join EPIP NYC as we kick off the fall. Come learn about our action plan and meet with your fellow EPIP members and other philanthropic professionals. For more information on these two events, click here. Read more

From our new Executive Director: is this your leadership moment?

Is this your leadership moment? We all have opportunities to make a difference in the world. Leadership doesn’t come from a job title. It isn’t conferred through an educational degree. Leadership comes from a willingness to meet today’s challenges in your community and the world at large. Today, I have been blessed with my own leadership moment as I step into my role at EPIP. Our work is to develop extraordinary new leaders to enhance organized philanthropy and its impact on communities. We envision a day when all generations of practitioners in philanthropy collaborate effectively to build foundations for a better world. Read more
