WHO WE SEEK

We seek an enthusiastic, self-starter with a commitment to excellence and who demonstrates a passion for RPA’s mission and values of integrity, diversity, quality and trust. The qualified candidate must have a strong philanthropic and nonprofit background with an exceptional client service orientation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Advisor will advise individual donors, trusts, corporations, and foundations on their grantmaking and other philanthropic activities. He/she will also participate in cultivating potential client relationships, coordinating donor briefings and programs as well as representing Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors throughout the nonprofit and business communities. The Advisor’s principle responsibilities will include:

+    Serve as program officer for all or part of institutional clients’ grantmaking portfolios.

+    Conduct research, assess issues, organizations and projects in order to make grantmaking recommendations to clients regarding their philanthropic contributions.

+    Meet with the grantees and other nonprofit organizations, evaluate reports and funding proposals; conduct site visits; seek confidential assessments; research areas of potential interest to donors.

+    Evaluate, prepare and submit proposals/recommendations to clients/donors.

+    Staff (and represent) clients in their philanthropic and civic activities.

+    Represent RPA at professional conferences and programs.

+    Prepare materials as required for periodic reviews and trust/foundation meetings.

+    Manage grantmaking portfolios for clients.

+    Assist in coordinating donor briefings and special events.

+    Maintain familiarity with required procedures for major charitable giving vehicles.

+    Participate in outreach and cultivation activities for potential donors and their advisors.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

+   BA and graduate work or equivalent experience preferred.

+    A minimum of three years of experience in the philanthropic or related field with increasing responsibility and proven effectiveness in working with grantmakers, programs, major donors, grantseekers, and non-profit organizations.

+   Experience with family, multi-generational or “Next Gen” philanthropy preferred

+    Experience with global philanthropy and/or innovative giving vehicles a plus

+   A collaborative and flexible style, with a learning orientation and team approach, including excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills

+   An understanding of the broad spectrum of private philanthropy, including trends in giving and key issues.

+   A demonstrated ability and interest in working independently with a wide range of issues, as well as the ability to work constructively and creatively as part of a team.

+   Commitment to diverse and creative approaches to philanthropy.

+   Excellent writing and communication skills.

+   Able to handle multiple projects, work independently, work in team environment.

+   Experience in a client service business and/or consulting business a plus.
