There is a lot of buzz in the field around the importance of building grantmaking practices and policies that minimize bias and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Countless reports have detailed the importance of providing general operating support, multi-year grants, and centering the voice and leadership of impacted communities in our work. Yet, too often, a gap remains between funders’ knowledge and action.
We’ll hear from three philanthropic leaders who are putting DEI into practice by not only changing what they fund but how they do their work. We’ll discuss how they adapted their processes, interactions with grantees, and overall grantmaking strategy to support DEI and advance justice.
Speakers Include:
- Aisha Alexander Young, Senior Director for Strategy and Equity, Meyer Foundation
- Edward Jones, Vice President for Programs, ABFE: A Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities
- Emily Yu, Executive Director, BUILD Health Challenge
