    Philanthropology - DC Metro Area

Join EPIP, the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers, and EPIP DC Chapter for the regional debut of Philanthropology™, a 3-module social justice grounding in philanthropy.

In order to use philanthropy to effect change, it is crucial that new practitioners in the sector understand its context, history, and challenges. Philanthropology™, first developed by EPIP in 2012 and revised for 2021, responds to this need with a curriculum that includes both academic and practitioner perspectives in an in-depth critical study of philanthropy and social justice created for and informed by the next generation of inclusive grantmakers.

The Philanthropology™ curriculum includes 9 hours of synchronous virtual content and supplemental activities that cover the landscape and history of the sector, intersectionality, movement building, grantmaking with an equity lens, and strategies for self-advocacy and professional development.

The curriculum also offers 3 hours of asynchronous activities and ample readings to further your knowledge

Registration for the series includes all three modules, which will take place over Zoom:
Module 1: Tuesday October 12, 1-4 pm EST
Module 2: Thursday October 21, 1-4 pm EST
Module 3: Thursday November 4, 1-4 pm EST

The series costs $400 for members of either EPIP or WRAG (you don't need to be a member of both). If that cost is prohibitive for you to attend, please email [email protected], as we will have a limited number of scholarships available.

If you participated in the Philanthropology™ session of EPIP's R/evolution Conference, please email [email protected] to register your interest and receive your $50 discount code.
