In the chaos of our present moment, it's important to take a step back and reflect. Who do you want to be? How do you want to live? How will you step up, resist, re-imagine the systems that shape our lives? How can philanthropy play a role in re-shaping our world? What risks will we have to take to create the world we want?
Join EPIP Bay Area for a discussion of two articles showing philanthropic responses to the present moment. Please come having read both articles.
Article 1: NoVo Foundation, The Fierce Urgency of "How"
Article 2: The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Trump Era Prompts Foundation CEOs to Get Their Bullhorns Out
- Discussion Questions
- How has your institution stepped up, challenged the status quo, or done things differently in the present moment? How would you like to see them taking action?
How have you personally stepped up, reconsidered your world, or done things differently in this moment?
How does or could your institution support you in reflecting on and stepping up in this moment?
If you had to choose between resisting and reforming the existing system, or imagining and creating a new system, which one would you dedicate yourself and/or your institution's resources to? Why?
We live in a time of declining trust in institutions and one another, and increasing conflict and uncertainty around what is true. In this political culture, what should be the role and goal of storytelling? Do we need to rethink how we go about speaking "truth" to power?
Our quarterly Article Clubs are loosely facilitated happy hours where attendees can network and discuss articles that focus on a current—and ideally, controversial—trend or hot topic in philanthropy. Have suggestions for future topics/articles? Email us at [email protected]!
