Program Officer, Youth in Philanthropy (FMW)

The Program Officer, Youth in Philanthropy is a critical member of the Foundation’s Program team and is responsible for overseeing the implementation and day-to-day management of the Foundation’s rapidly growing Youth in Philanthropy program. Launched in 1997, Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) is an experiential leadership development program designed to empower and educate local youth to become our community’s next generation of philanthropists – those who give their time, talent and treasure for the common good. Since its inception, YIP has educated more than 1,250 youth who have helped invest over $1 million to support youth serving nonprofits in our region. The Foundation currently operates 16 programs for both middle school and high school youth throughout MetroWest and remains dedicated to growing the program over the next 3-5 years.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Managing all aspects of student recruitment and enrollment. Includes:
    • targeted outreach to schools, organizations, religious institutions, etc. with program information
    • attend meetings and presentations as necessary to promote the program
    • work with Marketing department on all email and social media recruitment efforts
    • application design and maintenance
    • application review and student interviews
    • communicating acceptance and denials to all students
    • maintaining and communicating all student and family data to appropriate staff
    • Managing all aspects of program implementation. Includes:
      • Securing appropriate space and setting class schedules
      • Securing, training and supporting all YIP instructors
      • Conducting field supervision visits to programs as necessary
      • Making necessary updates and adjustments to YIP curriculum annually and providing to all programs
      • Teaching YIP programs as determined
      • Providing all relevant information to Marketing department for website and collateral updates as necessary
      • Supporting the Senior Program Officer with new program development as necessary
      • Articulating the importance of youth philanthropy education and the Foundation’s expertise in the field

Key Skills and Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years work experience.

He/she will demonstrate a deep understanding of the nonprofit sector and will possess exceptional program management, organization and communication skills. Additional qualities include:

  • Experience working with youth strongly preferred
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively build strong relationships with many different constituents
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems, assess priorities and manage a variety of activities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Keen conceptual, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Flexible work schedule (some early morning meetings, and some later evening events)
  • Strong work ethic
  • Good sense of humor
  • Willingness to roll your sleeves up, do the “little things that need to be done”
  • Exceptional technology skills
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, focused, ambitious
  • Professional demeanor, team player, positive attitude
  • Ability to prioritize, juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines
