Program Officer (RWF)

 

Employment Type: Part-time (24 hours a week) with opportunity to grow to full-time

OVERVIEW

The Roots & Wings Foundation is looking for a Program Officer to help shape and grow our new foundation. This is a chance to make a positive impact on the lives of thousands of people in the fields of healthcare, education, human services and human rights.

The person filling this role will be a key staff member, working directly with the Executive Director to set funding strategy and manage our grants program. Other main duties include helping support daily office needs and ensuring best practices in philanthropy.

The Roots & Wings Foundation is a new private foundation helping kids grow strong, from the roots up. The foundation stems from the Magic Pebble Foundation (www.magicpebble.org), which has donated more than $10 million to nonprofits. We seek to improve healthcare, reduce the disparity of care, support early childhood education, provide basic human services, and strengthen human rights to help create a more peaceful world. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage grants program

  • Strengthen funding strategy to increase the impact of our grants
  • Improve grant application and evaluation process
  • Research programs, review proposals, do site visits, and prepare analysis to aid funding decisions
  • Communicate with grant applicants and grantees; provide technical assistance as needed
  • Ensure legal compliance and follow due diligence practices for all grants
  • Keep current on best practices in philanthropy

Build community

  • Monitor public policy and advocacy issues relevant to the foundation’s mission
  • Cultivate relationships with key community partners, stakeholders and funders
  • Respond to regular inquires about the foundation
  • Help maintain the foundation’s website

Support the organization

  • Help the Executive Director set up and run the foundation’s office in Seattle
  • Support the Board through reporting and technical assistance
  • Proactively address anything else needed to maintain a great organization

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater
  • History of academic and professional success
  • 5+ years of work experience in grants management, foundation operations or related field is preferred
  • Experience with some operational responsibilities such as finance, HR, IT and legal is a plus
  • Knowledge of some of the foundation’s funding areas is preferred
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally 10-20%
