Overview:
The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation is a private family foundation established in 1966. For over 50 years, the Foundation has been dedicated to helping others by supporting extraordinary nonprofit organizations that:

The Foundation manages a sizeable portfolio and invites grant proposals from nonprofit organizations on an ongoing basis. The Program Manager will work closely with Foundation staff and Trustees on Foundation strategy, program development and all phases of grantmaking. This position will require using a diversity of models and approaches in solving social challenges, including approaches aimed at disrupting and reshaping systems to achieve equitable and sustainable outcomes.
The position reports to the Foundation’s Executive Director.
Responsibilities Include:
- Manage a diverse portfolio of grant recipient organizations from stages of early diligence through grant completion,
- Develop, evaluate and refine program area work in collaboration with the Executive Director and other program staff,
- Engage with Foundation grantees and prospective grantees on all aspects of the grantmaking process, including general correspondence, scheduling meetings, database access, records management, grant reporting, process requirements, and the development of proposals and new initiatives,
- Monitor the activities of funded organizations and projects; review and analyze grantee reports,
- Ensure accurate grant recordkeeping, processing, compliance and adherence to best practices,
- Collaborate with intermediary organizations (community foundation, other content-specific working groups) to devise effective regranting programs and/or strategies,
- Cultivate and reinforce, relationships with nonprofit organizations, partner organizations, community leaders and funders; facilitate connections and partnerships across the region and/or within impact areas of the portfolio,
- Stay abreast of community issues and trends with the goal of best aligning and influencing grant dollars for impact,
- Provide technical assistance to grantees and/or recommend helpful resources,
- Coordinate information and collaborate with staff across the portfolio of grants,
- Participate in the development and refinement of methods and systems to best support partnerships and processes and to assess the impact of grants and funded programs,
- Represent the Foundation at meetings, forums, and public presentations, as appropriate,
- Prepare high-quality written materials for Board review, and
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Higher education degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years work experience, preferably in a nonprofit/philanthropic environment
- Passion for social change and a commitment to ensuring equitable opportunity for all
- Self-starter, able to work independently, and proven success at multi-tasking
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy of information
- Strong writing/editing and verbal communication skills and the ability to ensure the efficient and timely flow of information and communication
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to manage upwards as well as work with team members in a collaborative approach
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- High level of professionalism, and experience interacting with senior level executives
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and documents
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Familiarity with Fluxx grants management database preferred
