Program Director (GMH)

Grantmakers in Health

Washington, DC

Objective

Grantmakers In Health (GIH) is a nonprofit, educational organization dedicated to helping foundations and corporate giving programs improve the health of all people. Its mission is to foster communication and collaboration among grantmakers and others, and to help strengthen the grantmaking community's knowledge, skills, and effectiveness.

GIH’s programming is designed by a six-member team of program directors. We are seeking a new team member, who will be responsible for GIH programming related to children and families, oral health, and population health. The work includes program development, analysis and writing, strategic advice, and external relations.

Core Responsibilities

Program Development: Formulate and execute long-range strategies for creatively sharing information with the staff and trustees of foundations and corporate giving programs. Plan meetings, organize webinars, convene funder networks and e-forums, and oversee annual conference sessions. Maintain web page(s) on key issue areas.

Analysis and Writing: Research and write about public health and health policy issues and philanthropic programs for grantmaking and other professional audiences.

Strategic Advice: Respond to grantmakers’ requests for information and ideas, providing timely advice and assistance on both programmatic and operational issues.

External Relations: Represent GIH at public functions as needed to communicate about the organization and the work of health philanthropy. Give presentations on topics of expertise.

Qualifications

A graduate degree in a health-related field is strongly preferred, and priority will be given to candidates with five years of work experience in health-related areas. Candidates should have: a proven track record of independent program development, excellent writing skills, the ability to work independently as part of a team of professionals; substantive expertise in one or more areas of health, and a willingness to tackle specific issues that are a priority for GIH. The position reports to the Vice President for Program and Strategy.
