Program Associate (MRB)

Overview

The Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation is seeking a program associate to provide program and administrative support for the program team. The program associate also will offer guidance to applicants and current grantee partners about the Foundation’s grantmaking process and priorities.

 Background

The Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation’s mission is to help people and places move out of poverty and achieve greater social and economic justice. Founded in 1953, the Foundation now makes grants to nonprofit organizations in 11 states in the Southeastern United States. MRBF supports organizations and networks engaged in collaborative, multi-strategy work, particularly those working at the intersections of three mutually reinforcing pathways of change: economic opportunity, democracy and civic engagement, and supportive policy and institutions.

Position Description

The program aspects of this position include:

  • Review and respond to organizational summaries submitted by grant seekers
  • Support network officers with due diligence process for potential grants
  • Monitor the progress of existing grantee partners through reporting process
  • Support network officers by assisting and managing aspects of the learning and evaluations system, which may include documenting grants and program-level data and stories
  • Contribute and distribute program-relevant news and policy developments to the program team
  • Conduct research, data analysis and prepare reports as directed by program staff
  • Respond to all requests, deadlines and special assignments from the program director, deputy director and executive director
  • Participate in program team meetings and training sessions
  • Contribute to a transparent organizational culture where ethical policies are understood and lived out by all staff 

The administrative aspects of this position include:

  • Coordinate calendars, schedule meetings and phone calls, and arrange travel plans for network officers
  • Format, edit and proofread grant documents
  • Organize meetings and special events that support programmatic goals
  • Interact daily via phone and email with grantee partners, grant seekers and strategic partners
  • Take notes and prepare minutes from meetings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2+ years of related nonprofit, administrative and/or research experience
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Excellent research and analysis skills
  • Excellent grasp of technology and computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent judgment and attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines, multitask, prioritize and work independently 
  • Ability to anticipate information needed to support programmatic efforts
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in a team
  • Commitment to the South and the mission and values of the Foundation
  • Strong interest in moving people and places out of poverty and in social, economic and racial justice

 Additional Information

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and generous benefits package. As this position is viewed as an entry to philanthropy, the Foundation expects it to turn over every three to five years.
