Join EPIP and EPIP Chicago Chapter for Philanthropology™, a 3-module social justice grounding in philanthropy. 

In order to use philanthropy to effect change, it is crucial that new practitioners in the sector understand its context, history, and challenges. Philanthropology™, first developed by EPIP in 2012 and revised in 2021, responds to this need with a curriculum that includes both academic and practitioner perspectives in an in-depth critical study of philanthropy and social justice created for and informed by the next generation of inclusive grantmakers. 

The Philanthropology™ curriculum includes 9 hours of synchronous virtual content and supplemental activities that cover the landscape and history of the sector, intersectionality, movement building, grantmaking with an equity lens, and strategies for self-advocacy and professional development.

The curriculum also offers 3 hours of asynchronous activities and ample readings to further your knowledge.

When:
Registration for the series includes all three modules, which will take place over Zoom: 
Module 1: Thursday March 10, 11am- 2pm CST (Philanthropy History, Ecosystem, and Evolution)
Module 2: Thursday March 24, 11am- 2pm CST (Racial Equity, Advocacy and Policy in Grantmaking) 
Module 3: Thursday, April 7, 11am- 2pm CST (Self-Advocacy and Personal Leadership)

Investment: 
The series costs $300 for members of EPIP. If you are an EPIP member in the greater Chicago area, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the generous support of the Macarthur Foundation. 

Eligibility and Audience: 
Philanthropology™ is designed for early- to mid-career philanthropy practitioners who have less than 3 years in the field, or feel like they need a refresher through a social justice lens, though the program will benefit anyone in the philanthropic sector.

There are 20 spots for those outside of Chicago who may be unable to attend another Philanthropology.
