Manager of Operations

This position has a key role in developing, evolving, maintaining, and formalizing systems around foundation granting and finances; implementing and coordinating program logistics, communications, and information technology (including personnel systems management); and other operational functions. These systems are essential for Open Horizon to deliver on its mission.

The Manager of Operations will play a critical role in evolving and continuing to formalize structure, including: creatively supporting evolving program logistics; facilitating funding grant commitments, and managing budgeting documentation; examining trends in operations across the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors, recommending and implementing innovative systems; participating in research aligned with emerging shifts in evolving programs and strategy; supporting key aspects of communications in collaboration with Director of Programs.

Areas of Leadership & Impact
What you will do:
• Event Coordination and Logistics
• Organizational Representation: Meeting and event attendance, relationship development, some facilitation as needed
• Communications: Manage technology for public engagement
• Consolidate and synthesize financial reports for grant recipient evaluation
• Stakeholder Engagement
• Financial and Budget System Management
• State and federal tax compliance
• Personnel System Management (internal HR system)
• Build Knowledge Management System (technical) to support programs
• Manage consultant vetting and engagements
• Inventory procurement and management
• Vendor selection in alignment with organizational policies

What you will bring:
• Alignment to mission and organizational values
• Higher education degree in aligned subject area; master's degree preferred and/or experience (2+ years) is considerable
• Experience in philanthropy in the DMV region, location preferred but not required; or transferable experience leading or establishing an operations position
• Commitment to life-long learning
• Exceptional organizational skills
• Strong communication skills: both written and verbal
• Technical event coordination, including conference logistics, virtual event platforms, and vendor and site vetting and coordination
• Partnership development and maintenance (Relationship building)
• Experience managing nonprofit accounts and/or foundational finances, including facilitating documentation for taxes and banking
• Nonprofit board and/or community service volunteering experience
