Major Gifts Organizer (CA)

The Take-away

Ready to take on some of the most powerful forces in our society? We’re looking for a major gifts organizer to join our fierce, smart team challenging global corporations, holding them accountable, and creating a world where all people can thrive.

Why You’ll Love Coming To Work Every Day

You’ll help change the world. You’ll be joining a team that’s not satisfied with the world as it is -- and has a vision for how it should be. Add a 40-year track record of winning campaigns and ambitious plans to win even bigger, and you’ve got a powerful force to be reckoned with.

You’ll work with awesome people. Join a team of seasoned, kind, determined, optimistic, and solutions-oriented folks. We work hard, celebrate victories large and small, and always have each other’s backs.

You’ll be a part of fearless and winning campaigns. When you’re in the business of ending corporate abuse, you can’t be afraid to name names and stick to your guns. For 40 years, we’ve been exposing and challenging the abuses of the likes of Nestlé, Exxon Mobil, Philip Morris International, McDonald’s, Dow Chemical, and more. We don’t back down, and we run campaigns until we win.

You can take on big responsibilities as you go. You’ll thrive here as you develop new skills, tackle new challenges, learn, and grow. We pay lots of attention to building staff leadership, and we provide support and training to help you become the best leader you can be.

You’ll be part of an organization committed to advancing racial equity and transforming systems of oppression. We are deeply committed to prioritizing the leadership of those who bear the brunt of corporate abuse: women, people of color, low-income people, people in the Global South, and LGBTQ folks around the world. Our unique culture has been fostered by a long history of women at the helm. We know we are stronger when the organization reflects the vision of the world we’re building together.

What You'll Do

Corporate Accountability is at an exciting moment in our four-decade history: We’re running four hard-hitting, world-changing campaigns that are advancing the human right to water, holding the Big Polluters driving the global climate crisis accountable, and stopping Big Tobacco and the fast food industry from devastating people’s health. We’ve grown significantly over the last five years, and we’re not slowing down. To maintain our momentum, we need to build even more people power and raise the resources that fuel our campaign impact. That’s where you come in.

Corporate Accountability is proudly people-powered: Our world-changing campaigns are driven by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Your job is to organize the committed, inspiring members and philanthropic partners at the heart of Corporate Accountability to take action, give money, and leverage connections toward victory. You’ll travel around the United States, meeting one-on-one with the people who power our campaigns, helping them understand and act on the impact they can have toward building a world rooted in justice. In so doing, you’ll identify a new wave of lead funders of the corporate accountability movement. And to do it, you’ll build in-depth expertise on our issue areas and campaigns, ready to speak at the drop of a hat to the problems our world faces and the people powering the solutions.

You’ll do it all with the expertise of a decades-strong campaign organization known for its ability to build and maintain people power over the long haul. You’ll be trained, motivated, and inspired by a team of organizers that sees injustice in the world and knows one of the best ways to solve it is to go out and talk to one person at a time. And in so doing, you’ll bring hope to hundreds of people around the country who believe a better world is possible and are just waiting for you to ask them to get involved.

Who You Are

  • The rampant abuses of corporations and the outrageous amount of power they have make you mad as hell -- and you want to do something about it.
  • You understand that changing the imbalance of power in the world, its inherent racial injustice, and the oppression people of color experience is a critical part of your work for justice. You have a commitment to advancing racial equity and transforming systems of oppression.
  • You have a deep commitment to building the people power of the progressive movement. You understand that engaging and activating ever more people to fund long-term, effective campaigning is essential. And you’re excited to get out there every day to build that power.
  • You’re an effective, tenacious communicator. You light up when you talk with people about something you’re passionate about, and your passion is contagious. And the secret to your effective communication? You’re a stellar listener.
  • You’re a self-starter. You work well with a team, but you’re equally happy setting off on your own to organize people out in the world, find new people to talk to, and drive toward your goals.
  • You’re goal-oriented: You aren’t afraid to make bold plans to meet big goals… and you relish the chance to problem solve and build news skills along the way.
  • You have at least three years of professional experience, ideally in a nonprofit setting—but we welcome candidates from other backgrounds ready for a change of sector.
  • You have a driver’s license and are excited and available to travel frequently to meet with people all over the United States.

What You’ll Be Responsible for in The Day-to-day

  • Raise and bank gifts that will enable us to scale up our transformative campaigns by building relationships with, stewarding, and cultivating our members and philanthropic partners.
  • Organize our members and philanthropic partners to take action across our campaign areas, leveraging their connections and access.
  • Become an expert in all of Corporate Accountability’s issue areas: Be able to speak to anyone about our campaigns, understand their priorities, and inspire them to give money and take action to advance our mission.
  • Meet with members in communities across the United States, traveling around 12 times per year, for up to a week each trip.
  • Play a leadership role among staff in fundraising, including by helping train staff to deepen fundraising skills.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records, with strong attention to detail.
  • Enthusiastically participate in organization-wide planning, fundraising, recruitment, and campaign activities.

Salary And Benefits

  • Salary range: $47,500 to $65,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Our generous benefit package includes health insurance and dental coverage; FSA for transit, health care, and dependent care; and 401(k) with employer match.
  • Generous vacation, sick time, and holiday policies.
  • Both internal and external training and leadership development opportunities.
  • Energetic Campaign Headquarters complete with open, collaborative work spaces and a big social kitchen.
