ABOUT THE POSITION
As a newly created position reporting to the Director of the Grants and Philanthropic Services team and joining a growing team within Hillspire, the Senior Officer will play a critical role in fostering a vibrant learning culture across the Schmidt family entities. As the family’s philanthropic ambitions expand and evolve, this person will develop enterprise-wide initiatives, tools, and processes in order to support ongoing analysis, reflection, learning, and responsive iterations to strategy. In establishing this new practice area, the Senior Officer will implement and foster adoption of these new practices and means of learning. With an eye towards scalable, sustainable impact, the Senior Officer will collaborate with relevant business partners to leverage these learning best practices to inform overall strategic direction and decision-making through thoughtful interpretation of measurement and data findings.
As an impact assessment expert, the Senior Officer will develop, foster and promote an environment that values and prioritizes the benefits of data collection and analysis with the ultimate goal of leveraging those insights to increase effectiveness and achieve desired outcomes. By establishing deep partnerships and a keen understanding of the nuances of philanthropic work across the Schmidt entities, this person will provide the necessary learning and impact resources to program teams in order to lead measurement and evaluation work in a service-driven manner that fosters a growth and impact mindset.
Hillspire seeks a seasoned learning and evaluation professional who brings at least ten years of experience informing strategy through data analysis and interpretation, preferably at a large private foundation. The successful candidate will have deep and broad experience collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing quantitative and qualitative data in the social sector.
The Senior Officer will bring a people- and data-centered approach to building out the learning function and making it available across the organization. The ideal candidate will thoughtfully balance a desire to listen and learn, while also bringing informed perspectives on best practices in this space.
Comfort with ambiguity and change is essential, as this person will be entering an organization experiencing significant growth and development. Demonstrated discretion and unimpeachable ethics and honesty is required.
While all staff are currently working remotely, the selected candidate will be expected to be based in Hillspire’s Menlo Park, CA office when it is deemed safe to return to work. Candidates should expect to travel approximately 25% of the time (about one week per month).
