Meyer Memorial Trust (MMT) is seeking a Housing Program Fellow to be part of a new team developing and implementing grant programs and other strategies that further the Trust’s vision of a flourishing and equitable Oregon.
The fellowship is a 24-month, full-time (37.5 hours a week) position located in Portland, Ore. Ideal candidates are from communities underrepresented in philanthropy, particularly communities of color, are early in their careers (4-6 years of professional experience) and are interested in learning about philanthropy. In addition, these positions require nonprofit and/or public sector experience working in areas relevant to the field of affordable housing.
The fellowship is offered through a partnership with the Momentum Fellowship Program at Philanthropy Northwest (please see https://philanthropynw.org/2015-momentum-fellowship-application for more information). In addition to opportunities at the Trust, MMT fellows will be part of a regional Momentum Fellowship Program learning and networking cohort with peer fellows from other participating foundations. This will include participation in quarterly cohort meetings, coaching sessions and mentoring/training opportunities.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborating with the portfolio team and stakeholders in grantmaking. Supporting outreach and technical assistance strategies to prospective applicants. Participating in grant proposal review; conducting due diligence and site visits; reviewing applicant finances and other indicators of organizational health; and communicating with collateral contacts to learn more about organizations, projects and communities. Preparing summaries of funding recommendations, developing grant agreements and reviewing grant reports. Supporting management of current grantees.
- Contributing to and developing a deep understanding of the portfolio area and goals, including the unique experiences, inequities, and perspectives experienced by Oregon’s diverse communities, and related strategies and supports that could be integrated into the Trust’s approach.
- Developing respectful and effective relationships with stakeholders across the region.
- Representing the Trust at community meetings and events, becoming a trusted presence in communities.
- Contributing to communication strategies, including activities to support storytelling, social media, presentations and outreach.
- Partnering to plan and implement convenings, tours, events, and other learning activities.
- Contributing to the improvement of program strategies. Participating in learning and reflection opportunities and evaluation and assessment activities. Sharing experiences and observations. Actively building understanding of best practices, emerging practices, and trends.
- Participating in training, professional development, and networking.
- Participating in Momentum Fellowship cohort meetings and mentoring/training sessions.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree, preferred.
- Four to six years of programmatic experience working in the area of affordable housing, with nonprofit experience preferred.

- Experience planning and managing complex projects.
- Proven analytical abilities in areas such as policy, nonprofit management, finance, governance, and program design and delivery strategy. Ability to synthesize a large amount of complex information into a clear and concise summary.
- Demonstrated ability to approach issues with an open and inquisitive mind, creativity, and entertain novel solutions to problems. Comfort with ambiguity and change.
- Ability to independently and flexibly manage a large workload with multiple demands and competing priorities while producing high-quality work under tight deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to multi-task, function effectively as a team member, and work to advance the Trust as a whole.
- Computer skills, such as using MS Office, Excel, and presentation software.
- Travel and evening and weekend hours are required.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The annual compensation for this full-time (40 hours/week) position includes a package of benefits including medical, vision, dental, Flex-Plan, and retirement. Salary is dependent on experience. Fellows will be placed at Meyer Memorial Trust in Portland, Ore., but will be officially employed by Philanthropy Northwest.
