Executive Director (ASC)


All Star Code (ASC) is a youth development organization dedicated to closing the opportunity gap between young men of color and the tech industry. Through a year-round curriculum including workshops, hackathons, and a flagship Summer Intensive, ASC provides industry exposure, mentorship, and intensive education in computer science to high school boys of color (ages 14-17).

Since its launch in 2013 with a one-day workshop of just 20 students, ASC has grown to reach over 500 students, pioneering a radical idea: that young men of color are an untapped talent pool that deserves investment. With support from a network of committed and influential donors, companies, and foundations, ASC is poised for its next phase of development focused on scaling its program and expanding nationally.



All Star Code is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as its Executive Director. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will act as the organization's internal and external leader, setting an ambitious vision for ASC's impact at scale and leading a high-performing team to execute that vision.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Organizational Leadership and Management

  • In collaboration with the Board of Directors, Founder, and senior team, craft a long-term, compelling vision for All Star Code's impact at scale
  • Lead the development of a 3-year strategic plan that aggressively pursues that vision
  • Oversee translation of strategy into operational plans, setting and executing against concrete milestones and goals
  • Provide executive oversight of program development and operations, ensuring ongoing programmatic excellence
  • Build, coach, and manage a high-performing team, hiring and developing key talent to effectively advance ASC's mission
  • Continue to foster and enhance ASC's entrepreneurial, positive, and diverse culture
  • Build and manage organizational budget
  • In partnership with Founder/Board Chair, recruit, secure, and engage a strong Board of Directors and Advisory Board
  • Act as primary liaison to the Board of Directors and participate on the Executive Committee

Fundraising and External Relations

  • In collaboration with Board of Directors and staff, design a fundraising strategy to support the growth and financial sustainability of the organization
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, foundations, and corporations, building a broad base of support and a network of champions for ASC's work
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships that can help ASC advance its mission
  • Serve as the external face of All Star Code, representing the organization to media and at conferences and other events

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • 7+ years of professional experience
  • Authentic connection to and passion for ASC's mission
  • Demonstrated success leading a high-performing organization, business unit, or team
  • Strong organizational management skills, with capacity to execute a variety of internal and external activities
  • Experience managing teams, with the ability and desire to motivate, coach, and develop staff
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and leadership presence, with the ability to develop strong relationships and galvanize a diverse spectrum of stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to speak thoughtfully about race as it relates to the nature of success in contemporary society
  • Understanding of and alignment with Lean Startup methodology and practice
  • Bachelor's degree required; Computer Science background a strong plus
  • Experience working in a technology company preferred

New York City, with potential for up to 20% travel


Salary and benefits will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
