In 2018, on every 4^th Tuesday of the month, different members of our EPIP St. Louis community will lead monthly discussion on a particular topic or article. Grab a friend, bring your lunch and come prepared to meet new people and discuss ways to move the sector forward. EPIP St. Louis will provide snacks and deserts. 

Join EPIP St. Louis to discuss the recently released EPIP National report, Dissonance & Disconnects: How entry- and mid-level foundation staff see their futures, their institutions, and their field. The report, which examines the thoughts and feelings of early and mid-career practitioners in philanthropy and their futures in it, focuses on themes including:

• Participants’ experiences at work
• Alignment between their institutions’ practices and their values and
• How participants see their futures in the sector

Surprisingly, or maybe not so surprising, only 40% of respondents believe their institutions are in touch with the needs of the communities they support and 55% see themselves leaving philanthropy in the next few years.

In recent years, our country has faced rising tensions across racial, social, and political lines. Virtually every issue in which philanthropy is active — education, environment, climate, LGBTQ rights, immigration, healthcare, and more — has been affected in some way. Early and mid-career practitioners are poised to help philanthropy navigate this current moment. They are powerful assets to their institutions — if their institutions can meaningfully engage them. We will explore how the report may reflect our own experiences and consider how to engage in conversations with leadership about foundation practices to better unlock talent and align values.
