Development Director (A)

Ascencia is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) agency, dedicated to moving families and individuals out of homelessness.  We serve Glendale, Northeast Los Angeles, Burbank, and West Hollywood.  This position is located in our Glendale office at 1851 Tyburn Street.

POSITION TYPE:          Full Time Non-Exempt

DESCRIPTION:             The Development Director serves as the chief strategist for all of Ascencia’s fund development. The person will lead the development team responsible for implementing a comprehensive development plan including individual giving, grantsmanship, and special events.

REPORTS TO:               Executive Director

Hourly Rate:                 $65,000-75,000, depending on experience; plus benefits

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Strategic Development Planning and Evaluation

  • Lead design and implementation of annual development plan, including concrete goals, development operations and budget
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create, update, and implement efficient and effective development-related goals and processes—both within the development team and across teams
  • Provide analysis of past fundraising and current trends in the field to inform goal setting
  • Develop dashboards to track progress and benchmarks
  • Manage the development team effectively to achieve goals

Major Donor and Individual Fundraising

  • Work closely with development team to project manage annual fund activities, including major donor program, direct mail, online fundraising campaigns and donor portfolio management
  • Lead the staff, Board, and Major Donor Committee’s donor portfolio strategy, provide training in the cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of donors, and provide stewardship to loyal donors in own portfolio
  • Proactively produce reports and analyses of donor data and campaigns to help inform strategies

Foundation and Corporate Fundraising

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with representatives from government, corporations, and foundations
  • Identify cultivation and fundraising opportunities for institutional donors
  • Manage staff and contract grant writers

Events

  • Partner with Board and staff in developing successful annual gala
  • Manage Board committee overseeing event to meet benchmarks and provide support, materials, and donor information
  • Steward donors, sponsors, and vendor relationships 

Data Management

  • Build, maintain and ensure the integrity and functionality of the donor database (eTapestry)
  • Collaborate with finance team to aid in monthly reconciliation including pledge receivables and gift coding
  • Ensure timely and accurate gift processing and acknowledgments

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum five years of development experience
  • Proven ability to act as project manager from concept to completion
  • Proven track record with annual giving campaigns related to major gifts, grantsmanship, and special events required
  • Supervisory skills and ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Bachelor’s degree
