Business for Racial Equity Fellow (LNP)

Context

America’s founding principles of liberty and justice have always been compromised by the reality that Black Americans were enslaved when those words were written. Amidst anguish over the deaths of George Floyd and countless others before him, the Leadership Now Project formed a rapid response team to define a serious business response to the systemic racism that threatens our democracy.

Born out of this effort was the Business for Racial Equity Pledge. This pledge asks individual business leaders to advance eight actionable, anti-racist initiatives within their companies in 3 key areas: policing reform, safe ballot access & civic participation, and economic inclusion.  It offers specific ways companies can invest, use their policy influence, and make changes within their business. More broadly, it asks businesses to reassess and reposition their role in politics.

Business for Racial Equity Fellow

The Leadership Now Project is seeking to hire a 6-12 month fellow to support the Business for Racial Equity effort. The Business for Racial Equity Pledge has garnered over 1000 signatures since it was launched and is continuing to gain momentum.  In the coming months we will work to support the signatories of the pledge to turn their words into actions. Workstreams include the following:

    • Measurement and certification: Develop independent certification / scorecard that recognizes corporate achievement on issues of racial equity and inclusion. Drive research / benchmarking efforts on existing certification to determine best practices and potential partnerships
    • Partner Facilitation: Identify and help establish partnership with key organizations to build a business for racial equity coalition. Coordinate effort amongst partnership organizations
    • Industry specific analysis: Conduct analysis to develop industry specific racial equity toolkits. Disseminate to specified partner organizations within industries

  • Signer engagement: Develop and execute on communications plan to engage pledge signatories
