Join EPIP's Bay Area Chapter for a drink and a discussion of a New York Times interview with EPIP member Edgar Villanueva about his new book, Decolonizing Wealth

In a New York Times op-ed titled "A Call to Modernize American Philanthropy," Villanueva argues, “For me, the essence of decolonizing wealth is about closing the race-wealth gap. If you are working in finance or philanthropy, and your job is to move capital, you’ve got to be aware of the history. If we care about affordable housing, health care, education, whatever, we have to apply a lens of race to understand how to be strategic about how we deploy resources. If we do not put race at the center, we’re not going to get solutions that work for all people.

Check out the article, then join us for a conversation about what it means to decolonize wealth and think about racial equity in philanthropy! We are open to all folks regardless of your (or your organization’s) knowledge or commitment to racial equity and DEI. This is meant to be a time to discuss our own perspectives and experiences on the topics and questions presented in the article. Those who have read Villanueva's whole book are welcome as well.

Appetizers are on EPIP. We hope to see you there!
