The Position

The Associate Director of Development (ADoD) is a member of the New York Division Development Team who is a key member of the Long Island Chapter team, with office locations in Cold Spring Harbor, East Hampton and New York City. They work closely with the Long Island Chapter Director to implement and coordinate effective multi-year strategies and plans for gift prospects, including individual, foundation and corporate donors.  This position has a special focus on funding conservation work on Long Island including water quality improvement, healthy oceans, estuaries, and coasts and tackling climate change.  The position also supports conservation strategies across the State of New York, as well as nationally and internationally. The position reports to the New York Deputy Director of Philanthropy with a dotted line to the Long Island Chapter Director.

Who You Are

We are looking for an individual with a proven track record in sales or fundraising, who wants to make a difference for nature and people.  Working with a dynamic and ambitious team across the state, the Associate Director of Development will supervise LI development team members and will play an integral part in the success of our mission by building a portfolio of qualified donors and developing impactful relationships. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, influential, and diplomatic when navigating across geographies, departments, and organizational levels.  We appreciate collaborative approaches and encourage innovative ideas and recommendations.  

The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years related experience or an equivalent combination.
  • Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents.
  • Experience in asking for and closing gifts of $100,000 or more.
  • Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, preferably in a large non-profit.
  • Experience working with fundraising principles and practices.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in current trends in charitable giving in the areas of

      capital campaigns, major gifts or planned giving.
