Assistant Director, Recognition, Donor Relations (DFCI)

This position works collaboratively as a member of the Division of Philanthropy team to help the department meet its annual fundraising goals. The Assistant Director drives recognition programs and initiatives including donor giving societies and memberships, donor recognition gifts, displays, patient partners, donor signage, naming opportunities, and the annual honor roll of donors for a broad donor base.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and manage donor recognition initiatives and projects such as:
  • Named space and donor signage, including management of named space during renovations and the inventory of available space and donor recognition guidelines;
  • Annual list review process for recognition of fiscal year and cumulative giving, including oversight of all content, list management, production calendars, coordination with Philanthropy Communications, business unit training, and annual debrief;
  • Campus tour process, including maintenance of tour documentation, training of tour guides, and creation and maintenance of tools to assist guides in customizing tours to difference audiences;
  • Donor recognition systems, including the development and maintenance of program management tools and systems for recognizing donors, creation of individual recognition plans in collaboration with prospect managers, gift tracking, reporting, and assessment of donor impact and effectiveness of recognition;
  • Major donor giving societies managed by Donor Relations;
  • Donor recognition displays, including maintenance of current displays and creation and implementation of new displays;
  • Custom gifts including photo books, one-of-a-kind memorabilia, and framed certificates and art in collaboration with prospect managers;
  • Patient Partner Program for three business units, including identification of recruitment opportunities, communication and scheduling with all stakeholders, participant recruitment, follow-up with program coordinators and partners, and facilitation of health checks and status;
  • Project time tracking in QuickBase system and oversight of direct report tracking;
  • Oversight of Portfolio system management with team Assistant.
  • Manage two Officers on the Recognition team and contribute to strategic planning and the budgeting process.
  • Responsible for assisting the entire department, including business units, to reach annual financial goals.
  • Assume other duties as necessary.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports to the Associate Director, Recognition, Donor Relations
  • Supervises two full-time Officers
  • The position is programmatic in nature and a considerable amount of autonomy in decision-making and completing work-related tasks is required
  • Works collaboratively with staff from the Division of Philanthropy, as well as members of the Institute’s senior leadership and other Institute departments

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience
  • Philanthropy experience preferred
  • Previous direct report and personnel management experience is strongly preferred
  • Donor, volunteer and stewardship experience preferred
  • Strong project management and budgeting skills; ability to multi-task
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to assess and correct processes and procedures
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills required
  • Effective in working with wide audiences, including highest level of Dana-Farber constituencies
  • Sharp attention to detail and ability to review and edit materials is critical
  • Effective in working with wide audiences, including highest level of Dana-Farber constituencies
  • Strong sense of customer service
  • Positive, can-do attitude; willing to do what it takes to meet the goals of the Division of Philanthropy
