ABOUT THE POSITION
The Diane & Norman Bernstein Foundation - - a Jewish, social justice, family foundation based in Washington, DC - - seeks a Grants and Family Office Associate. The foundation is governed by a seven member board of directors. This position will be the second staff member and report directly to the Executive Director.
Position Summary and Responsibilities:
The Associate plays a key role in grant administration as well as support of the foundation executive and a small family office. The range of duties are broad, with responsibilities that include managing grants, planning and attending meetings, writing meeting and grantee summaries, managing calendars and serving as liaison to accounting and administrative support. The associate will play a role in the development and ongoing management of a [new] foundation website, manage the online document management system and prepare and route paperwork related to investments.
- Conduct due diligence for potential grants;
- Review and analyze grantee reports;
- Represent the foundation by participating in local convenings and grantee site visits;
- Draft meeting minutes, grantee summaries and other related communications materials;
- Manage scheduling of meetings, calls and convenings using traditional and virtual calendaring tools;
- Support the grantmaking process:
- Actively track and manage grant proposals and other related materials, and provide technical support to grantees related to submission processes;
- Assemble key materials for the Foundation’s board and board meetings;
- Manage the relationship with the Foundation’s website developer and, once developed, maintain the Foundation’s website content;
- Assist in the design and development of meeting agendas and take notes during meetings; and
- Facilitate the payment of invoices and other matters related to accounts payable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented systems thinker with a commitment to social justice and racial equity. The candidate is also able to manage several tasks simultaneously, with a strong ability to manage up. The candidate should be entrepreneurial, possess a high level of initiative, and be comfortable working independently, as well as with peers and colleagues.
- BA/BS degree preferred. Experience in a relevant field, interest in the nonprofit sector, and working knowledge of the economic development/economic justice field is highly preferred
- At least 5 years work experience, nonprofit or foundation experience a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Excellent analytical thinking, writing, speaking and editing skills
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary commensurate with experience, $50,000-70,000 range annually

- Position is located in Washington, DC (near metro) and in general, requires two days in person at the office and three days virtual work.
