OUR APPROACH: Liberty Hill is a public foundation founded in 1976 to power social change from the ground up by fueling grassroots community organizing. Every dollar invested in community organizing yields a $90 return in community benefits through progressive policy change. We support organizers who are tackling injustice with our three-pronged strategy: grantmaking, training, and alliance building. Reporting to the Director of Foundation and Government Grants, the Senior Program Manager of Foundation and Government Grants is responsible for assisting the team with pursuing, securing and stewarding grants from various external sources.
You will research and evaluate grant opportunities; coordinate the process in the lifecycle of grants, from prospecting to closeout. You will also collaborate in the development of proposals, including needs assessment research, writing, and budgeting; working with grant writing consultants, program staff to compile reports; and internal teams to ensure compliance and good stewardship of funds.
ABOUT THE POSITION
What You Will Do:In collaboration with the Director of Foundation and Government Grants, you will:
Help design and oversee the grant lifecycle to ensure that information and documents are organized and easily accessible, deadlines are met, and the organization remains in compliance with grant requirements.
Ensure that appropriate staff are regularly engaged with funders.
Assist with short- and long-term strategic planning activities to establish and track goals for fundraising from foundations and government sources.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation, corporate and government grants through visits and other forms of direct personal contact.
Draft and review grant proposals,reports and budgets to ensure on-time submission.
Develop relationships across teams to work collaboratively on prospecting, proposals, budgets, reports, and compliance.
Manage the process and submission of assigned proposals, including uploading to funders' portals.
Contribute proactively to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion principles throughout the organization.
Requirements
What you will need:
BS/BA Degree or equivalent personal lived/professional experience.
3+ years’ experience in grant writing in a nonprofit environment. Experience with securing government contracts preferred.
Experience writing and/or managing six- and seven-figure grants and contracts.
Experience with creating grant budgets.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
Exceptional organizational and project management skills with demonstrated ability to implement procedures that contribute to efficiency.
An understanding of, and commitment to Liberty Hill’s mission.
Knowledge of Los Angeles County funding landscape preferred.
Familiarity with Raiser's Edge or other donor management software.
Proficiency in Office365, especially Excel, with aptitude to learn new software.
Proficiency in Asana and Slack preferred.
Physical demands:
Ability to operate a remote workstation and laptop/screen for extended periods.
Ability to travel for in-person meetings and events in Los Angeles County. This position is mostly remote with regularly scheduled in-person meetings.
