As some funders adopt more participatory forms of grantmaking to support community-driven solutions, the essential perspectives of one group are too often excluded from decisions that directly impact them — youth. The next generation will bear the brunt of society’s most pressing challenges from advancing racial justice to addressing climate change to solving the housing crisis. When youth are not invited to the decision making table to share their expertise and lived experience, we miss out on opportunities to direct grant dollars where they can have the most meaningful impact on young people and their communities.
EPIP Bay Area is pleased to partner with Stupski Foundation and the Walter and Elise Haas Fund for a virtual panel event to discuss the need for youth voice and decision making in philanthropy. The panel will feature four youth working in foundations today, and participants will also hear from grantmakers about how working with youth informs their grantmaking and builds a pipeline of young talent into philanthropy. We hope you will join us for this discussion to consider ways foundations can work with youth to direct grantmaking, bridge the generational divide, and pave more equitable pathways for young leaders into the sector.
