Director of Development and Member Experience – Philanthropy Massachusetts

Philanthropy Massachusetts (PMA) seeks a Director of Development & Member Experience to serve as a senior leader advancing membership growth, revenue diversification, and fundraising strategy. Reporting to the CEO and partnering closely with senior leadership and the Board, this role creates, oversees, and executes PMA’s development and membership strategies—recruiting and retaining members, expanding earned and contributed revenue, managing sponsorships, and delivering an exceptional member experience that reflects PMA’s commitment to excellence and collaboration across the philanthropic sector.


Position details 
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer 
Location: Hybrid (3 days/week in office, including mandatory Thursday “all in” day) 
Travel: Local/regional meetings and local, regional, and national conferences several times annually
Experience required: 8+ years progressive leadership in development, membership, partnerships, or philanthropy; experience in a philanthropy-serving organization, association, foundation, or nonprofit preferred; Salesforce or comparable CRM experience; demonstrated success in fundraising, sponsorship, and membership growth 
Salary: $125,000–$135,000 (firm), plus benefits package
 Key responsibilities include: 
Develop and execute PMA’s annual development and revenue strategy; grow foundation, corporate, sponsorship, and individual support; identify new earned-revenue opportunities aligned with LEAP; produce fundraising plans, pipeline reports, and forecasts 
Lead membership recruitment, onboarding, retention, renewal, and engagement; develop segmented outreach; partner with the VP of Member Programs & Engagement to strengthen satisfaction and retention through data and insights 
Support cultivation of strategic partnerships with foundations, corporate funders, and sector networks; represent PMA at conferences and convenings; create sponsorship opportunities for signature events 
Oversee Salesforce data quality and reporting; build dashboards tracking membership, revenue, sponsorships, renewals, and engagement; use analytics to drive continuous improvement 
Serve on PMA’s leadership team and contribute to organizational planning, budgeting, and cross-functional collaboration
