Research and Evaluation Executive Assistant (R&E EA)

The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (STBF) is a private grant-making Foundation with a U.S. home office in Omaha, Nebraska, and a global office in Kigali, Rwanda. With annual spending in excess of $500 million, it is one of the largest private foundations in the U.S. The Foundation is unusual for donors of such size as it has only two main areas of grant making: 1) supporting efforts to reduce unintended pregnancy and ensure access to safe abortion for women in the U.S. and around the world and 2) to enable low-income students in Nebraska to attend and succeed in college. The Foundation currently employs 44 staff across 14 states in the U.S. and 7 staff in Kigali, Rwanda.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Research & Evaluation Executive Assistant (EA) will be an integral member of the Foundation’s R&E team. Currently, R&E includes the Vice President, three Senior Officers, three Officers, and three Associate Officers. R&E drives learning across the Foundation by working in partnership with STBF’s three Programs: College Access and Success, Global Programs and U.S. Programs. R&E enhances the quality and effectiveness of the Foundation’s grantmaking by guiding research and evaluation questions, helping partners think through methodological and analytic approaches, guiding regular assessment of progress towards and achievement of outcomes, and promoting the utilization of measurement and evaluation results. R&E makes the connection between strategy development, outcomes measurement, and evaluation, to assess program and organizational effectiveness and to support learning for the Foundation and for the field. At present, the R&E unit is in a process of co-creating with the Program teams, a newly evolving mandate anchored by evidence, measurement, and learning. Emergent R&E strategies and processes may lead to changes in how current and future staff are configured, and how we operationalize our work. Our team is also committed to supporting ongoing staff professional development and learning.

Reporting to the R&E Vice President, the Research & Evaluation Executive Assistant (EA) will provide expert, comprehensive administrative support to the R&E Vice President and full team. The EA will help conceptualize and steward the management of R&Es operational processes, systems, and budgets, serving as the VP’s liaison with the Foundation’s Operations team (and working with Program counterparts, as needed), and will provide input into the vision and direction for meeting R&E’s current and future administrative needs.
