The Communications Network counts thousands of members across the globe. Our members work at foundations, nonprofits, and do-good boutique consulting firms.

The membership experience is an integral part of our offerings, and gives those who join the ability to participate in our Slack community, join our Circles program, lead a LOCAL group, get a discount to ComNet, and more.

As Network membership and programs have grown, we realize the membership experience needs a dedicated staffer to help curate it and make it better and more engaging than ever before.

As our Membership Coordinator, you’ll take the systems we have in place and build upon them to cultivate a meaningful membership experience from start to finish.

Position Summary:

This full-time position is an integral member of The Communications Network’s remote/DC-based team and reports to the Director of Programs and Operations.

Essential job functions include:

Manage back and front-end operation of Network’s membership database and payment processing system.

Create and staff a personalized/concierge-style system to guide new members through an onboarding process, assisting them in becoming more engaged in The Network’s activities.

Update and maintain membership email welcome series.

Create systems to integrate and/or sync membership lists with Network’s Slack community, MailChimp accounts, Circles program, ComNet registration lists, and other programs.

Create an online membership directory that members can use to find one another based on name, the org they work, location, skill sets, etc.

Draft member-related materials including renewal notices, acknowledgements, and other forms of correspondence with members

Build and cultivate relationships with current and prospective members.

Manage and oversee processes for invoicing, collection, and acknowledgement of membership dues payments.

Manage and oversee the responses to member inquiries and provide general information.

Ensure proper maintenance of member data and member tracking.

Develop, maintain, and analyze reports and other documents as needed related to membership activity.

Provide membership materials to members and prospective members as requested.

Collaborate with other teams to recommend members and prospective members for committee service and other engagement opportunities.

Plan and execute online member engagement events, including new member welcome events.

Develop and maintain a membership metrics dashboard.

Troubleshoot member issues as they arise.

Other duties, including admin support, as assigned.

As every member of our team does, you will also help in the production of ComNet, The Network’s annual conference. Duties could include:

Community-building initiatives

On site membership events

Logistics for special events and onsite activations

Key Qualifications

The Communications Network team works together in a close, collaborative environment. A good sense of humor and commitment to teamwork are essential.

Must have 2-5 years of membership or program management experience.

Ability to work remotely and effectively 40 hours a week (roughly 9:30am - 5:30pm Eastern Time) with occasional travel required, as well as flexibility for onsite, in-person events (which may include occasional nights and weekends).

Knowledge of software including Wild Apricot, Cvent, Stripe, Slack, Salesforce, Canva, and Google Workspace preferred.

Experience with digital tools and platforms to stay organized, communicate transparently, and collaborate with team members remotely.

Prior experience in the philanthropic and nonprofit sector is a plus, but not a requirement.

Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently under close supervision.

Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports and ability to review documents and data for accuracy.

Strong interpersonal skills including that demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, agility, cultural, and emotional intelligence.

Strong research skills, excellent writing and communication skills.

Skill in identifying problems ranging in complexity and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate technical complexities with clarity and simplicity.

Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.

Knowledge of the application and use of databases for membership data and processes.

Providing membership data reporting to other team members as needed

Total Compensation:

A salary range of $45,000 to $55,000 depending on experience, plus benefits including:

401k with 5% salary match
