Community Engagement Coordinator

Function:

Reporting to the Community Engagement Director, the Community Engagement Coordinator will play an integral role in growing CAASE’s engagement with and accountability to communities that are disproportionately targeted for and harmed by sexual harm, with a specific focus on growing CAASE’s engagement with Black and other POC, indigenous, or LGBTQ+ survivors of sexual harm. The role will be responsible for making initial contact, scheduling introductory meetings, attending community fairs and other events, joining established coalitions, and providing trainings as needed, to and with organizations rooted in or serving Chicago’s under resourced communities, with a focus on Chicago’s South Side and south suburbs. The duties of the Community Engagement Coordinator will include promoting the program, engaging in community outreach to drive referrals to CAASE's CASE Manager and to better identify community-based resources that can supplement those provided by CAASE to survivors of crimes involving sexual harm. The Community Engagement Coordinator will also work with survivors and survivor serving organizations to identify opportunities for engaging in advocacy on behalf of individuals and groups hurt through sex and systemic discrimination and will provide ongoing peer-style support to CAASE clients and staff dealing with the consequences of crimes related to sex and systemic bigotry.

 

Responsibilities

Facilitate community education, especially with regard to the services provided by CAASE, in under-resourced neighborhoods on the south side of Chicago and in southern Cook County.

Identify and engage community partners who may already be serving or working with people who have experienced sexual harm.

Arrange for and attend meetings, on at least a weekly basis, with individuals and organizations throughout Chicago’s Southside and south suburbs, in order to increase CAASE’s connections to and engagement with communities heavily impacted by sexual harm.

Organize, facilitate, and present at public education and engagement events, on at least a monthly basis.

Support Community Engagement Director in identifying and developing opportunities for survivors and survivor-leaders to influence and/or lead initiatives.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Applicants must have:

Experience working across communities most vulnerable to sexual exploitation, including communities of color, LGBTQ communities, undocumented people, those living with disabilities, those living under the poverty line and/or those with housing insecurity.

Working knowledge of south side communities and organizations, especially organizations with a focus on preventing or treating sexual harm

Experience with program facilitation, administration, documentation, and social media communication

Experience with community organizing, political organizing and/or journalism

Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle at least 4 days per week (parking and mileage will be reimbursed)

 

The ideal applicant will also have:

Comfort with/enthusiasm for public speaking

Familiarity with Chicago’s southside and south suburbs

Experience working with people from underserved communities

A basic working knowledge of gender-based violence

Passion for advocacy and structural analysis

Proficiency in Spanish a plus

Salary and Benefits

The role is a hybrid, full-time, 40 hours per week position, with the ability to work remotely and the requirement to travel and attend in person meetings throughout the Chicago area and in CAASE’s Loop office up to 4 days per week. COVID-19 vaccinations are required for candidates as of their first day of employment.

The salary range for this position is mid $50,000 to mid $60,000, negotiable depending on experience.
