POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Vice President, Strategic Partnerships and working as an integral member of The New York Women’s Foundation team, the Program Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of grants on behalf of the NYC Fund for Girls and Young Women of Color (the Fund).  The Program Officer works closely with the Vice President and other NY Women’s Foundation staff around all grantmaking functions and holds active relationships with grantee partners and Fund members to advance the work of the Fund.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Program Officer assists with all aspects of the Strategic Partnerships portfolio of activities whose major activities are currently focused on the NYC Fund for Girls and Young Women of Color programmatic work.  This includes but is not limited to:

 

Fund meetings:

  • Assist in preparing for Fund related meetings (Steering Committee, Quarterly Fund meetings, other committee meetings, webinars, etc.)

Grantmaking:

  • Draft Requests for Proposals
  • Prepare and guide Participatory Review Committee in their participatory role
  • Conduct site visits
  • Work with Fund members or designated consultants around grantee learning and reports

Grantee Partnership:

  • Actively manage grantee partner relationship
  • Support grantee partner capacity building
  • Develop and implement annual forums, conferences, convenings, or other cohort level activities

Field Building:

  • Funder briefings on various topics
  • Assist with developing field scans or preliminary research on Fund related topics

Other Duties and projects as assigned

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum B. A. plus four years work experience in nonprofit and/or philanthropic institutions; M.A. preferred
  • Knowledge of issues and challenges facing young women, transgender youth, LGBTQ communities and communities of color
  • Experience in planning and implementation of programs, particularly for girls, young women, and transgender or gender non-binary youth of color
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural, inclusive environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a team
  • Highly organized, professional and meticulous with detail and protocol
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of FLUXX a plus
  • Community organizing and advocacy experience a plus
