Development Associate (FH)

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Development, the Development Associate serves as a member of Fenway Health’s development team, and is responsible for overseeing specific fundraising programs including initiatives such as the Young Leaders Council, Harbor to the Bay bike ride, and the organization’s Boston Marathon team.

Representative Duties:

Young Leaders Council (YLC)

  • Responsible for all aspects of Fenway Health's Young Leaders Council program, including the recruitment
  • and retention of YLC members, with an emphasis on diversity of membership
  • Responsible for planning and executing YLC-specific events and activities
  • Manages the Steering Committee and Co-Chairs, including the recruitment/election process
  • Leads all SteerCo meetings, and is responsible for monthly member communications
  • Responsible for cultivating and soliciting YLC membership gifts, as well as ongoing annual fund and event donations

Harbor to the Bay Annual Bike Ride

  • Serves as the primary Fenway Health coordinator for the Harbor to the Bay annual bike ride 
  • Creates and implements a business plan to attract  riders for Team Fenway and Team YLC to meet the annual budgeted goal
  • Provides support and assistance to team members in order to raise annual budgeted goal amount
  • Attends all Harbor to the Bay committee meetings and team fundraising events
  • Represents Fenway Health on ride day at key crew locations and the finish line
  • Leads communication and publicity effort for Harbor to the Bay on behalf of Fenway Health

Fenway’s Boston Marathon Team

  • Serves as the primary coordinator for Fenway’s involvement with the John Hancock Marathon Non-Profit Program, including annual application, attendance at all mandatory meetings, and administrative reporting
  • Recruits runners to Fenway’s Marathon Team
  • Provides support and assistance to team members in order to raise annual budgeted goal amount
  • Supports communication and publicity effort for Fenway’s Marathon Team

 Maintains an Individual Giving Role

  • Manages a portfolio of individual donors and prospects
  • Solicits and steward donors and prospects through direct personal contact and written communications
  • Works with Development staff on planning the most appropriate stewardship and solicitation strategies
  • Serves as staff liaison for all YLC Steering Committee members as well as YLC members

Other Fundraising Initiatives

  • As the fundraising and staffing needs of the organization evolve, this position may be responsible for additional or different fundraising initiatives

Requirements:

  • High school / GED required; undergraduate or graduate degree a plus
  • Two or more years development experience preferred, or comparable experience in sales or project management or related areas
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) preferred, but training offered
  • Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge preferred, but training offered
  • Previous work with volunteer committees preferred
  • Ability to work independently, be extremely detail-oriented, and prioritize multiple tasks at once
  • Commitment to the mission of the organization
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse persons preferred
  • Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required
