WASHINGTON, DC EPIP

About DC EPIP:

EPIP is a nationwide membership organization dedicated to strengthening the next generation of grantmakers, in order to advance effective social justice philanthropy. To reach this goal, a group of young professionals from a diverse array of philanthropic organizations in Washington, DC, came together to establish a local chapter. We provide members with a peer community, programs for professional development, events for staying abreast of philanthropic trends and issues, and opportunities to build our leadership and voice in the field.

Initial planning for DC EPIP began in February 2003, with a small meeting between four DC folks and the executive director of the national EPIP network. Out of the meeting, a small organizing committee was formed. In February, 2004, DC EPIP held its first "Listening Meeting" which brought together over 30 constituents to express their visions of a professional organization dedicated to philanthropic learning and innovation. By that time, the organizing committee grew into a steering committee, and the group has sponsored a series of social gatherings and professional development events since that time. The first "Feed Your Brain" session featured a talk by Deepak Bargova, the executive director of the Center for Community Change. In April 2005, three members of the DC EPIP Steering Committee participated in the first National EPIP Chapter Leader Gathering.
