Program Manager

MISSION:

Founded in 1996, The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation keeps music alive in our schools by donating musical instruments to under-funded music programs, giving youngsters the many benefits of music education, helping them to be better students and inspiring creativity and expression through playing music.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Michael Kamen Grant is our sole program addressing instrumental music program needs at under-funded schools serving low-income students. The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (MHOF) works nationwide to give access and opportunities to students who would otherwise not be able to play and learn music in school. The Program Manager reports to the Program Director and is a member of a small staff that relies on active and effective teamwork.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct support to the Program Director to administer and fulfill core program duties, including grant application review, prepare and conduct interviews with school and district, generate detailed written reports of interview findings and maintain ongoing communications with applicants
  • Generate and manage awarded school grant agreements, instrument receipts, evaluation reports, track program budgets and create and process instrument purchase orders
  • Serve as primary contact with outside music products vendors
  • Collect and synthesize relevant research as needed for various projects
  • Track prominent music education policy issues and trends
  • Oversee administrative support for the program and maintain ongoing relationships with awarded schools
  • Provide support to development and communications staff to deliver program impact information, content for donor communications, expense reports and data for board meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in education, arts education/administration/management, or related field
  • Minimum three years of related work experience
  • Experience with Title 1 K – 12 schools and arts education policy a plus
  • Knowledge of musical instruments
  • Can type at least 65 wpm
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Stong administrative skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite and adept at internet research
  • Highly organized, a self-starter and able to prioritize, track projects and meet deadlines
  • Able to solve problems and recommend alternatives to promote program effectiveness
  • Ability to work in an open space with frequent staff interaction
  • Some local and regional travel required

HOURS AND BENEFITS

  • Hours: Exempt- 40 hours per week. Work outside normal business hours is rare but flexibility is expected
