About the International Climate Policy and Non-CO2 Initiatives
This position will advance two distinct portfolios of work. The first is in International Climate Policy. ClimateWorks supports organizations advancing climate action in international forums, and develops strategies to inform and engage philanthropy. Efforts are focused on strategy and alignment, lifting the voice of leaders and champions, aiding movement building, and developing impactful new approaches.
The second is to develop, refine, and implement strategies to significantly reduce Non-CO2 Emissions. This work is comprised of four main initiatives: shipping, oil and gas methane, fluorinated gases, and air quality. The goal of the portfolio is to align and galvanize ClimateWorks and other funding partners behind credible, compelling and effective non-CO2 investment strategies.
Program Associate, International and Non-CO2 Initiatives
The Program Associate will support the Director of International Climate Initiatives and Non-CO2 Mitigation in the preparation of strategies, completion of internal and external deliverables, processing of grants, managing relationships with grantees and partners, and organization of meetings and events. (S)he may interact with multiple internal and external stakeholders, and therefore must be professional and poised, and have good judgment in dealing with a broad spectrum of activities and situations.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills with a focus on the timely delivery of outputs. Being a strategic thinker with international experience and a background in policy and climate is also essential. The Program Associate will report directly to the Director of International Climate Initiatives and Non-CO2 Mitigation.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Program Associate will perform the following and other duties as assigned:
- Support and manage a variety of projects contributing to strategy, budgeting, planning, reporting, performance management, and grants.
- Assist with production and quality control of outgoing work products, e.g. briefings, plans, budgets, communications materials, surveys, requests for proposals, and presentations; help draft, edit and format Word, Excel and PowerPoint outputs.
- Work on short term and ongoing projects with a variety of teams within ClimateWorks and the ClimateWorks Network, including but not limited to the Programs, Communications, External Affairs, Research and Knowledge Management teams.
- Administer grants, under the direction of the Program Director, and manage grantee relationships as appropriate.
- Engage with partners, experts, and others to develop, agree and track work.
- Help plan, prepare for, and run stakeholder working sessions on strategy development and implementation.
- Develop and oversee stakeholder communications tools.
- Assist with the scheduling and coordination of conference calls, meetings, workshops, and interviews.
- Function as a point of contact for, and prioritize ongoing tasks related to, the International Climate Policy & Non-CO2 Mitigation strategies in the San Francisco office when the Program Director is working remotely.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
- 3+ years’ experience in a program support role
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental or political science, public policy, economics or other relevant/related field preferred
- Understanding of international climate politics and the macroeconomic forces that shape the fossil fuel and clean energy economies, preferred
- International work experience, preferred
- Experience working in nonprofits or foundations, preferred
- Superb written and oral communication skills
- Excellent research and analytical skills
- Ability to initiate and manage projects
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Experience working in service to a broad range of clients and stakeholders
- Good personal and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and multi-task
- Ability and willingness to travel (both domestically and internationally) as needed
- Passion for environmental and social issues

ClimateWorks Foundation offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience. This position will be located in San Francisco, CA.
