Junior Accountant (ALFJ)

Our grantmaking, capacity building and philanthropic advocacy programs support the work of lesbian, trans*, intersex and LGBTQI organizations to challenge oppression and claim rights.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Astraea Foundation is seeking a Junior Accountant to join its three person fiscal team. The Junior Accountant is responsible for all the day to day processing for the foundation and will work closely with the Controller and Senior Accountant.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process accounts payable (AP), including analyzing and processing checks request, petty cash, invoices and other employee’s reimbursements. Responds to staff and vendor requests for accounting/payment information.

  •  Process cash receipts on a weekly basis.

  • Prepare day to day and month-end month journal entries.

  • Record monthly credit card statement activity.

  • Assist in the processing of payroll, including analyzing the time sheets and HR related documentation.

  • Manage the supply of Transit Cards, including distributing monthly Transit Cards and ordering quarterly Transit Cards.

  • Prepare bank reconciliation on multiple accounts and responsible for reconciling monthly donation revenue and grant expenses.

  • Prepare annual 1099 for all vendors and consultants.

  • Assist with the coordination and preparation of the annual audit organization and the annual Federal

    Single Audit.

  • Assist in the annual budget preparation.

  • Train and supervises fiscal interns.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 2 years of bookkeeping, financial reporting and/or financial management experience, preferably with non-profit, foundation or government organization.

  • Accounting coursework is a plus.

    SPECIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

  • Strong Excel and Word skills.

  • Highly organized, self-directed, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Previous experience with accounting software such as Blackbaud, Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
