Navigating Shifting Sands: What We Can All Learn From Jewish Charitable Giving

The contemporary Jewish philanthropy system is confronting its greatest challenges since its formation a century ago. American Jewish nonprofit organizations are struggling with such topics as how to appeal to a younger and more diverse generation of donors, maintain mindshare within a wider range of global issues and causes, maintain dwindling support for multi-purpose organizations, leverage innovative technologies and convey the impact of what they do. As a result, more than a dozen Jewish private and community foundations came together to model effective collaboration and fund the first-ever, national study on American Jewish giving. That collaboration has given rise to a stirring piece of research, “Connected to Give,” that has implications well beyond Jewish philanthropy. During this webinar, we will examine both the challenges and opportunities associated with effective funder collaboration. We will also explore findings around how personal histories and collective experiences affect the worldviews of Jewish nonprofit professionals and the donors they target. Lastly, we will discuss implications for the creation of new capacity-building and leadership development tools for nonprofit professionals that help them frame their communications more effectively.
