EPIP Chicago Summer Update

What you’ve heard about Chicago summers is true— they are the best part about living in the city! EPIP Chicago had a great summer and as we brace for fall’s unpredictable weather and gusty winds, let’s relive what we were up to in the summer.

On July 14th, EPIP Chicago held "Facilitation for Grantmakers," the second workshop in the Tool-kit for New Philanthropic Leaders series.

Thanks to great insights from our speaker, Mae Hong, Vice President at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, we learned how to plan and execute efficient meetings. Mae provided participants with tools and tactics for Facilitation for Grantmakers and ways to communicate more effectively. Participants also had the chance to role-play real life situations and practice their facilitation skills with one another.

Later that month, EPIP Chicago, in partnership with Chicago Women in Philanthropy (CWIP) had a great meeting with Alexandra Mitchell and Jeffrey Pryor, authors of “Compassionate Careers.”

EPIP Chicago steering committee members and participants of CWIP’s Women Leadership Mentoring Program met for a conversation about talent development in the nonprofit sector and exploring the “3 Ps” finding a career with an organization that makes the world a better place: passion, purpose, and profession. We talked about what it really means to support professional development for the emerging leaders in our sector.

On September 2nd, EPIP Chicago, Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) Chicago and All A-Board Alliance held a joint happy hour for young professionals in Chicago. Thanks to our generous sponsors, Lagunitas Brewing Company and Drop Chicago, young professionals networked and mingled over drinks and appetizers at the beautiful Chicago Architecture Foundation space.

Bringing together three young professional networks was not an easy task. Lauren King, former EPIP Chicago steering committee member and current board member at YNPN Chicago and All A-Board Alliance wrote a great blog post of her experience participating across these networks. Check it out here.

We have an exciting fall ahead, especially since we are looking for new voices to be part of our steering committee. Register for our workshop, Influencing and Fundraising for Grantmakers here.
