Clean and Safe Ports
The Port of Los Angeles is the busiest port in the United States and a fascinating example of how workersí rights, environmental justice, and governmental policies come together. Working with the Coalition for Clean and Safe Ports, the Port of Los Angeles launched the Clean Trucks Program, which set landmark labor and environmental standards and is becoming a national model for other ports. Join us for a learning tour of the Port and surrounding communities to see how environmental groups, labor unions, community groups, legislators, funders and others are coming together to improve conditions for workers and residents.
You will hear from:
- Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy
- East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice
- Neighborhood Funders’ Group Working Group on Labor & Community Partnerships
Hidden Hollywood
Hollywood is known for being the center of cinema and celebrity, but, as always, thereís another side to the story. Homelessness among young people is a major issue and some innovative organizations and funders have stepped up to the challenge. Join us for a learning tour right outside the conference hotel. Hear from organizations that provide essential services and safe spaces to rebuild the self-esteem and self-sufficiency of hundreds of young people living on the streets.
You will hear from:
- Hollywood Arts
- My Friend’s Place
- Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center
Generating Change, powered by the EPIP Generating Change Initiative
At this conference, you will have heard and learned a lot about what it means to invest in grantee talent to promote leadership development, sustainability, and skills-building. Move beyond the workshops and go out into the local community to hear how funders and capacity-builders have creatively approached these issues, and to hear directly from grantees focused on social justice on how, as a result of these efforts, they have experienced greater effectiveness, capacity, and impact. We will bring these investments to life using not just your brain but all of your senses!
You will hear from:
- Durfee Foundation
- Food Forward
- Liberty Hill Foundation
- LA Voice
- Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance
